I have visited Paris in December a few years in a row now. The city is beautiful any time of the year but Christmas season is especially pretty. The buzz of Christmas markets and window displays clad in lights and decorations all make up for a very festive atmosphere. If at all possible I love squeezing in a sunrise photo session or two while I am there. There are not as many people around, plus it gets me up and about early in the morning and I get to enjoy the beautiful morning light. I am not a morning person, so this never happens unless I have a session scheduled.
Very few couples choose to get professional photos taken after their wedding. At least not until they have children. Typhaine and Pierre have been married for a few years now, so it was lovely to capture some new photos of them as a couple. Paris offers many different picturesque areas that can serve as a backdrop. The quirky Montmartre is one of my favourites. We chose the perfect winter morning for the session with sun greeting us as soon as we climbed the steps to Basilica Sacre Coeur. It was freezing cold and the steps outside the Basilica were still perilously frozen. But once we carefully navigated the steps down to the viewing platform the whole of Paris lay in front of us, basking in the sun.
From there we took a stroll through the cobbled streets of Montmartre, past the Instagram famous restaurant La Maison Rose and back to the Basilica. There are so many streets that one could explore there and this is what I love about Montmartre. No matter how many times I come back, I always find new hidden gems. So you can bet that you’ll find me there again next time I visit Paris.
